Hi, I’m EMMA ERSHOW.
As an educational consultant, I bring a deep passion for culturally responsive and relevant pedagogy along with several years of experience as a teacher, coach, curriculum writer, and training facilitator to my work in schools. I am a strong advocate of data-driven, inquiry-based instruction and I believe that all children are capable of meeting rigorous goals in the classroom, especially when their identities, interests, and cultural backgrounds are intentionally integrated and elevated. My mission is to help spread strong instructional practices to school leaders and educators and to help design efficient and sustainable structures to make teaching a life-long profession for highly qualified instructors once more. I currently live in Arvada, CO with my family - my husband Devin, 4-year-old Eliana, and dog Harper.
My Approach
My coaching work is based on the philosophy that the best educators see themselves as life long learners - the work of teachers and school leaders is never finished and we never “arrive” as experts at some final destination.
With this belief at the forefront of my work, I bring to my partners a combination of my own teaching and leadership experiences as well as the research-driven practices of Elena Aguilar (Coaching For Equity), Jim Knight (The Impact Cycle), and Paul Bambrick Santoyo (Leverage Leadership, Get Better Faster, & Driven by Data). I work with individual schools, networks, and districts across public, charter, and private school communities.
In my work with math teachers, specifically, I draw from effective practices and tools developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and find inspiration in the work of authors such as Jo Boaler (Mathematical Mindsets), Wendy Ward Hoffer (Cultivating STEM Identities & Minds on Mathematics), and Thomas Carpenter (Children’s Mathematics: Cognitively Guided Instruction), to name a few.
